SB 229: Final version (November 6, 2007) requires state agencies to consider a number of factors when awarding or canceling contracts for work or purchase with private businesses. These factors include "whether a proposal by a vendor to provide services to this state using employees, contractors, subcontractors, or other individuals who are not citizens of the United States, legal resident aliens, or individuals with a valid visa would be detrimental to the state of Michigan, its residents, or the state's economy."
