Is there an audit in your future? I-9 & E-Verify Compliance Law Update
This past June, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) served another 1,000 Notices of Inspection (NOI) targeting businesses related to vital infrastructure and critical resources including industries that include construction, agriculture, food production, financial services, IT, healthcare, water treatment, postal and shipping, transportation, and commercial nuclear reactors.
The NOI requests not only Form I-9 documentation, but also payroll records, IRS federal tax returns, corporate records and bylaws, copies of immigration filings and more.
E-Verify adds another dimension to the I-9 process of verifying the work eligibility for new hires.
As of September 2009 certain federal contractors and sub-contractors are required to use the E-Verify system to confirm employment eligibility. Many states already require it and there is pending federal legislation that would require usage of the E-verify by all employers.
Now more than ever it is crucial that employer's perform a self audit of their Form I-9's and familiarize themselves with the E-Verify system.
This workshop is a unique opportunity to hear directly from the agencies that enforce and audit I-9 and E-Verify compliance, including a detailed overview of an ICE I-9 audit process; how to properly fill out the I-9; IRCA; ICE Investigations and current worksite enforcement policy; ICE IMAGE program; an overview of USCIS' E-Verify Program and other practical tips for employers to avoid costly mistakes.

This seminar will provide detailed guidelines for human resource directors, presidents and vice presidents when employing foreign nationals. In-house counsel, attorneys and paralegals who provide legal assistance may also benefit from this program.
Avoid Visa Problems With A Solid Understanding of the Rules
- Legally employ foreign workers by knowing how to file the correct paperwork and adhering to proper procedures.
- Understand which nonimmigrant visas are available, so you can select the correct one for the situation.
- Prevent delays and interruptions in employment by avoiding the most common pitfalls.
- Make sure your documentation can stand up to scrutiny by knowing exactly what you need to report.
Today's work environment is becoming more and more diverse. People from other countries are coming to America to work and fulfill their dreams of citizenship and pursue career opportunities. There are many regulations that govern non-citizen requirements for working in the states, and it's up to you to know your obligations when hiring these workers. Will your understanding of immigration law provide the results you need?
At this comprehensive seminar our team of experienced trainers will give you the knowledge and techniques you need to handle employment situations involving non-citizens. After attending, you'll be able to follow step-by-step procedures for either temporary or permanent resident status. Properly handle paperwork for intra-company transferees from overseas offices. Avoid trouble by correctly using the 180 day portability rule. Identify ways to prevent visa issuance delays at U.S. embassies. Make sure your documentation can stand up to scrutiny. Recapture unused visas and green cards from previous years. Noncompliance can be costly – get your knowledge and skills up to speed.
